Customer service-less Rental Agency leaves one stranded

So it's been more than a week since a shocking incident (by personal opinion), 19th May 2017, with Europcar South Africa and I have not received one response from them to personally address this.

Using their vehicle through a corporate booking I found myself stranded when the keys were locked in the car on the passenger seat as I gathered my goods and was bul**** by another vehicle to get into the parking next to me (despite the fact that she had her pick!); by stepping aside and gently closing the door (not even CLOSED SHUT!) the car self locked.

Needless to say the bully remained in her car for the next 20 mins on a phonecall.

So here I am stranded in CT with my belongings on the car seat along with the keys. Thank goodness my handbag was over my shoulders and I was able to ask my colleagues to call the rental company at the airport to ask for someone to come and unlock the vehicle ... surely they had spares. Well, now I know they DON'T!

What's more my colleague was just given a number of a locksmith and told that I had to arrange for them to come out and I had to deal with it COD. (Later I came to learn that this locksmith actually gets quite a lot of business from Europcar).

Now I am sorry, but this does not sit well with me as a woman travelling away from home. Stuck in a different city, you rely on a rental agency (and the safety of their vehicles) to look after you in respect of their service offering.

The fact that they a) expected a lady on her own to fix the problem herself, taking no service offering into account to come and help - let alone arrange for the locksmith from their side; b) to NOT carry spares of their cars for such situations; c) expect that people carry cash on them to deal with such circumstances (R650) and lastly, d) that there was not even a follow up phonecall to find out if I, or their vehicle for that matter, were ok / came right!

So, if you were wondering, no, NOONE informed me of the self-locking feature of their vehicle, nor did they inform me of their policy that they will not come to my rescue if the keys get locked inside the car.

So after numerous attempts to get hold of the CT airport branch manager; personally speaking to a supervisor when I dropped off the car; and promises by their social media team that someone would be in touch; I as a woman would NOT recommend Europcar CT International Airport.

Much to be said about customer service and brand integrity in these times!
