I recently hired a car at the Kathu branch of Europcar. On my return to Johannesburg I got a snotty sms from Europcar telling me that, according to their onboard telematics device that I had exceeded the speed limit while using their car. Interesting, at the time that I was supposedly exceeding the speed limit, I was sitting in an aeroplane 30 000 ft above the ground. And this after an sms confirming that the car had been returned prior to the time of the alleged infringement. Clearly the car was being driven by one of their own employees. I queried it twice with Europcar, once with someone who was supposedly a senior manager. On both occasions I was promised a follow up call. To date i have received nothing, not even an apology. I will make sure that I do not use Europcar again when I travel. I can't be held responsible for their employees bad driving.
