Beware: Shocking service and alleged damage liability that is charged for

Received an email on Nov 30 from Boniwe Zwelibanzi, over 3 days after returning my car to the Europcar CT branch, saying a lower bumper scratch on the rental vehicle was noted. Was told to fill in an attached claims form. Tried calling to speak to Boniwe but could not get through; stated this in an email, and this was simply ignored. Sent another email on Dec 1 stating that I was unaware of any damage and consequently could not fill out the form, email once again was ignored. In the interim, contacted the client centre on Dec 5 who said they were investigating the matter. Dec 7 I receive an email from Boniwe with attached pics of damage to the car, without any form of reply to my previous mail. I responded the same day highlighting how the time-stamp on the pictures did not reflect the date the car was dropped off. I asked to be advised going forward. No response but a person by the name of Jaco Von Molendorff, not Boniwe, phoned me. He explained damages amounted to R1653. In order to resolve the matter I said I would be willing to possibly pay less, but under no admission of liability, and he agreed to call me back to see if a lower amount could be arranged. I am still waiting for that call. Today, I sent an email underscoring the shocking service received and stating that under no circumstances am I willing to pay any more. I asked for my invoice to be draughted and in response received an email from a separate automated account billing me for the damages amounting to R1653, despite me repeatedly indicating that I had not caused such damage.

Points of contention:

- Absolutely disgusting service.

- No-one to inspect the vehicle when dropped off.

- Europcar will bill even if you do not accept liability by filling in a motor claims form.

- Jaco Von Molendorff, when discussing the damages with me telephonically indicated that because the car was new he felt obliged to bill me. Had it been an older vehicle, he would have been able to write the damages off as wear-and-tear. This level of ************** is revolting.

- The extent of the damage is something I definitely would have been aware of when driving. I would under no circumstance rightfully shirk responsibility if I had caused the bumper damage.

- The damage to the vehicle was reported to me over 80 hours after drop-off. This should have been more immediate and I do not care what Europcar’s internal processes are for storage of damaged units –someone else could easily have damaged the car in the interim.

As such, be aware of the revolting service received especially by the CT branch who are content in ignoring communication and billing people despite no rightful proof. Absolutely livid and disgusted.

Please note that I was further billed a claim admin fee of R879, more than half the charge of the alleged damage! This is alongside an R140 assessment fee. What ******* you are.
