A deeply disappointed customer
Review of Europcar – Bloemfontein (Near Central University of Technology)
I am extremely disappointed by the service I received at the Europcar branch located near the Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein. As someone who values professionalism and courtesy, my recent experience was both shocking and unacceptable.
Firstly, there is a serious issue with the conduct of one of the staff members in charge, a lady named Dalene. Her treatment of employees in front of clients is deeply disrespectful. I witnessed her speak to her staff in an unprofessional and demeaning manner, which made me extremely uncomfortable as a customer. It was so unpleasant that I strongly considered canceling my booking and taking my business elsewhere. This kind of behavior reflects very poorly on the company and has the potential to damage Europcar’s reputation and customer retention.
Dalene’s attitude not only creates a toxic work environment for her colleagues but also leaves customers with a traumatic and disappointing experience. With all due respect, if she is no longer able to treat both clients and staff with dignity and respect, perhaps it’s time for a serious reassessment of her role within the company. At the very least, urgent retraining or disciplinary action is needed to prevent further damage to the brand.
Secondly, I would like to raise a suggestion regarding payment flexibility. I was not allowed to tap and pay using my phone, which I found unnecessary. The receptionist claimed it was due to the need to verify card details for a refund, even though I was hiring the car through my insurance. As a result, I had to go withdraw cash and still fill out my banking details manually — a step I would have taken regardless of the payment method used. This policy is frustrating and should be reviewed for practicality.
In addition, there was no visible or accessible suggestion box on the premises, which further discourages clients from sharing feedback constructively. I suggest that Europcar provides transport — even if just to a nearby ATM — for loyal or regular clients in cases where payment complications arise. It would go a long way in showing care and courtesy to customers.
In conclusion, while Europcar as a brand may offer competitive services, the experience at this particular branch was marred by poor leadership and a lack of customer consideration. I sincerely hope management takes these concerns seriously for the sake of future clients and the hard-working staff.
