Terrible Transit Stay

The worst part of our journey was the transit hotel Ethiopian Airlines gave us to stay at on our return journey home. First of all, you have no idea what hotel you will be staying at until you're at the airport. The transit hotel we stayed at in the beginning of our journey was upgraded to a better hotel than what Ethiopian Airline gave us, by some gentleman at the airport, the hotel was nice, but after experiencing what we got given on our journey home - we realized that we got really lucky for that. Our experience of the transit hotel in Ethiopia returning home: to begin with, they crammed us into a completely jam packed shuttle until there was no place left even for an ant, baggage piled high in the front too. It was not only uncomfortable and stuffy but a terrible idea during this pandemic. We got to the hotel and immediately sensed a feeling of dread, our room was terrible. The carpet which was meant to be blue had stains all over it and was now bluish brown and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in years. The beds looked sad and the bedding had stains on it too. The Bathroom had no upkeep in ages. The quality was sort of less than a motel. It was so incredibly cold in the night but we refused to sleep under any blankets due to the state of the room, we got no sleep for night. We skipped breakfast in the morning after seeing the shocking state of cleanliness in the room. We got crammed full in the shuttle again in the morning, with people coughing and all - and returned to the airport. The airport itself also had no real Covid regulations in place. There was zero social distancing in the lines, people stand right on top of you and I mean right on top of you. You have to take your shoes off and walk on filthy carpets. The only actual visible restaurant at the airport was impossible to get any service at all. It was really disappointing to end our trip like that. Ethiopian Airlines should put people in decent hotels for transit stays, and by decent I mean clean - especially during Covid
