INSUFFICIENT AIRLINE COMPENSATION for lost baggage
One piece of my luggage was first logged as delayed baggage immediately upon arrival at the Destination Airport and then after almost three months only , was it re-classified as lost baggage ; ready for compensation . I must add too , that my bag was lost since my original Departure from JOHANNESBURG TO ADDIS , but inspite of that while I was still on my trip abroad the ' Incident fee of $100 US ' was not even made available , though it is mentioned so clearly on the Ethiopian Airlines Website ; so as to try to minimise the traveller's inconvenience . So eventually after 100 days I have only been compensated 40% of the value of the luggage lost ( $21 US per Kg ) . Though the Montral Convention ( 99 ) allows for a Maximum compensation of US $ 1730 per uggage item . Apparently there were many cases of Lost and Delayed baggage between Dec.2023 and Jan. 2024 peak season .
