Please avoid Ethiopian airlines at all cost. I have had the worst experience with them. I was flying in on flight ET 0414 on 20 June from Addis Ababa to Tel Aviv. CHRISTIAN THOMAS BOTHA e-ticket *** I was carrying 2 bottles liquor 1 Cognac and 1 bottle Vodka I bought at Duty Free OR Tambo South Africa.in a plastic sealed bag by Duty Free. At Security in Addis Ababa when I was boarding for the flight to Tel Aviv - the Security personnel told me I could not take the sealed plastic bag with the 2 bottles liquor on board - they said I must put it in my cabin bag and it must go on with cargo in baggage holding area. I protested to say it was sealed in accordance with International flight regulations - but they insisted. This was totally unusual because I had flown on many occasions to various places all over the world taking liquor bought at Duty Free in sealed bags in accordance with International flight regulations - with no problems. I knew then there was a disaster coming. After I had arrived in Tel Aviv when I got the bag at Tel Aviv airport I discovered that the bottles were broken and the fluid messed up my cabin bag as well as the contents which were medicine, documents as well as photographic equipment. I immediately reported this to Ethiopian Airlines representative at the airport - who gave me an Ethiopian Airlines mishandling baggage form with contact details of Ethiopian Airlines in Tel Aviv. I immediately on 21 June 02:08 pm send a detailed complaint with photos of broken contents as well as baggage labels through to the Ethiopian Airlines offices to e-mail. I have has considerable damage with the 2 expensive bottles liquor broken. But clearly Ethiopian Airlines is not interested to reimburse me. There were several communications taking place between me and them but It is clear that Ethiopian airlines are doing anything in their power to sidestep any responsibility with regards to damage or losses occurred to passengers property and /or baggage. I am a frequent flyer that has flown to numerous countries and on numerous airlines right across the world and never have I encountered such *********** service. Especially if I compare Ethiopian airlines to Kenya airways or TAAG airlines – also from Africa. Ethiopian airlines lags far behind – there is simply no comparison. I will do everything in my power to persuade my fellow travellers to avoid Ethiopian airlines at all costs. In fact through my testimony I have already discouraged several travellers not to make use of Ethiopian airlines. I shall also definitely never ever fly Ethiopian airlines ever again.
