Mothers with babies stay away!!
Sept 2013 I joined Essential Med in Nov 2013 I received good news.After 5 years of hearing that i will never get pregnant I finally got the news that I was pregnant.Never the less Essential Med did not pay for the birth in Aug 2014 I had to pay everything the doctor visits and the birth of my baby.I understand that I was still in the waiting period of 12 months.While I was pregnant I phoned Essential Med numerous times about adding the baby on the policy.First I phoned and the consultant told me that I must add the baby within 48 hours after birth and then he will be covered immediately.After that i phoned again just to make sure and the story changed that if I put the baby on he will have a 1 month waiting period I asked the consultant again more than once are you sure and the consultant rep**** yes just 1 month waiting period!16 Feb 2015 my baby of 6 and half months had to be admitted to hospital with pneumonia!Essential Med gave me the auth nr and 2 hours later said NO the baby is still in waiting period! I would like to advice any mother with a baby to stay away!If that consultant told me about the waiting period i wouldn't have taken this for my baby!Hospital Bill R25000

Upon investigation from Essential Med side the following was discovered.
On the 27th of July 2014 one of our consultants spoke to you and advised you that your baby will have waiting periods as we did not cover the actual birth of your baby.
On the 15th of August 2014 we received your amendment form and added your baby and partner on the policy. A letter was sent to you to inform you of your amendment and the inception date for both of them is the 1st of September 2014.
That placed them in the 6 months waiting period.
The authorisation was never granted and was declined on the 17th of February 2015 when authorisation was requested.
Essential Med is also bound by the Policy wording.
