dissapointing
my son played varsity sewens in the cape province.he injured his knee and came off the field where he was treated by er 24.he did not go to the hospital as it was not considered series. because off limited doctor visits he did not go and see a doctor.on his arrival back in potch the monday (HE GOT INJURED ON SATURDAY)the knee was not beter and i adviced him to go to the doctor .after x rays and the results he was referred to a specialist and to be operated on .when the hospital phone essential med they said that the injury was not reported and that theyare not going to pay the operation.it true it was not reportedby me or er 24.<br> now my quistion is ....my son is studing at puk on a sports bursery (i am a single father) .i know i should have reported it or er 24 should have.but because off a technical fault on my side or er 24 side .he has a chance to loose his bursery if he is not playing rugby and of caurse cant study next year becuase i havent got the money to pay for the studies .why because of this little mis hap does essential med want to pay the op.<br> i chose essential med of all the affordible med aids availible ...and now this<br> need operation urgenntly ...

Thank you for bringing your concerning matter to our attention.
We would like to confirm that the Hospital HOD was in contact with you regarding your complaint. As you stipulated yourself you were aware of the procedure to follow in order to obtain authorisation, however, you failed to report/log the call with our ER 24 within a period of 48 hours.
Our Management had a discussion in order to assist to cover part of the costs, however, it is a day procedure and it was an accident. The costs will be covered under the Illness cover to an amount of R 11 000.00 towards the procedure.
You as client will be liable for all costs above our benefit.
Essential Med strives in the best service delivery towards all our valued clients.
