Formal complaint against Esscor Financial Services for misleading me into Debt Review. Date: 2nd November 2023

On Monday 30 October 2023 I received a call from a Company Called Esscor Financial Services They advised me that they are a company that assists people with managing their Debt. They asked me if I am aware that I am being overcharged on my interest with the Banks and they can help reduce my interest. I was asked to give them permission to do an ITC check. I gave them permission to proceed with this. They did an affordability check and said they could reduce my interest rate and I could have an extra amount of R5000 left at the end of the month. I asked them how they can do this. They said due to Covid-19 the Governornet have implemented a process to help people with their debt. I did ask them why I did not hear about this. The consultant proceeded to tell me that this has been advertised on TV and social media. I was very surprised and thought maybe I could have missed it. I proceeded to give them permission to proceed. Everything was done within minutes of the call. They asked me if I was married in community of property and asked for my spouse's ID number and asked me to sign the initials of my spouse. At the end of the call I asked them what was the catch and what will this be costing me. They said they are here to help people. Not once during the call was I informed that I am signing and giving permission to go under debt review. This we found out when my spouse received an email from the bank informing him about the information about debt review. I was misled and **** to throughout the whole process by the consultant and the correct process was not followed. My spouse has sent an email to request an urgent cancellation of this debt review as he did not give them permission to do so. When I asked them to remove it. They ignored all my calls.
