Ongoing Electricity Theft and Eskom’s Failure to Protect Legal Customers – Edenburg, Rivonia

I am a property owner in Edenburg, Rivonia, and I am deeply frustrated by Eskom’s continued failure to protect its infrastructure and law-abiding customers.

The electricity supply box that powers my five tenanted homes is located outside the secure boomed-off area, adjacent to hijacked houses that have been *******ly occupied. The occupants of these properties have repeatedly broken into the supply box, bypassing the system to ***** electricity. This has led to frequent power outages, with phases blowing due to overload, leaving my tenants without power—sometimes for days.

Despite multiple reports to Eskom, and our own efforts to secure the box (including installing locks), nothing has been done. The locks are cut or ground off, and Eskom fails to act to move or secure the infrastructure. I have also contacted our ward councillor and NERSA due to the seriousness of the issue.

This situation causes:

Loss of rental income due to tenants moving out

Electrical appliance damage

Safety concerns for legitimate residents

Complete power loss due to ******* tampering

I am calling on Eskom to take urgent action:

Relocate the supply box inside the secure perimeter

Protect the infrastructure from ******* connections

Ensure reliable supply for paying customers

It is unacceptable that ********s can tap into the grid unchecked while paying customers suffer. I urge Eskom to prioritise this issue before more damage is done.
