Eskom Money grabbing
We live in a complex and our Body Corporate buys bulk electricity from Eskom for resale to individual units. We have been connected to Eskom for nearly 26 years. In that time we have always paid our accounts and have never missed a payment. Last week we received a letter demanding and increase in our electricity deposit from R14700 to R230000 which they expect us to pay within 30 days. We are supposedly a key Customer according to the letter sent. I was wondering what would happen if the coal mines supplying Eskom demanded a similar deposit of three months supply and how many businesses can afford to provide such upfront payments. It would appear Eskom are incapable of recovering money from those who are not paying such as various municipalities and now plan to ***** the few good customers they have because they are a monopoly and can do so.They calculated the deposit due as the highest three months accounts in winter months when they charge exorbitant peak power charges and not an average over a year. NERSA needs to do something about this and maybe the Competition Commission should also look at this ************** of customers. Eskom If you are short of cash which we know you are then go fetch the money from delinquent customers and leave your good customers alone. Cannot wait to go off grid and see this empire crumble
