Eskom fines for their property
So Eskom was busy on the 16th of Feb switching off the so called "bridged electricity" in Orlando West. As they were going on about their business we discovered that people in our area are on prepaid electricity. Seeing that we are the only ones who do not have prepaid, we decided to approach Eskom and request that we go onto prepaid electricity as well. They sent people to our house, who went to the electricity box and came back saying we also tempered with it. How can we temper with prepaid electricity when we do not have the service in the 1st place? Yes, our electricity was on, but we are guilty of not paying the monthly bill. We had no idea that our area had prepaid until the 16th of Feb 2022!! Is it our responsibility to open the electricity box in the street to check and see if everything is in order? For that matter, how would we know if the electricity is not in order? Why is Eskom charging us for damage that we cannot and must not have access to? Why is Eskom charging for tempering with the prepaid electricity that we do not have installed yet? I want Eskom to show us how the outside box should look like and send someone on daily basis to my house so that we can accompany them to the outside box to confirm if it had been tempered with or not. We cannot be held liable for someone else's meddling with Eskom's box. Eskom is the one with the keys and capability to open the boxes, why are we being charged for asking to have my facility changed? Were we supposed to keep quiet??
