Eskom Cuts power without warning and won’t let TENANT pay even though owner cannot!

Good day

I am a tenant 579148****.

Without warning my electricity was disconnected yesterday. I contacted Eskom this morning;

Reference Number: ***

Contact: ANNA LEMGWSA

AMOUNT: R 10,896.00

I was advised that no “ARRANGEMENT” could be declined during covid. I tried making an arrangement in the past but because I’m not the account holder I was declined.

The owner had stated categorically that he cannot afford to pay the electricity account. I am trying to make arrangements to pay the account but being blocked at every turn!

I am an unmarried mother of two very small children. I have a bleeding disorder that is potentially life threatening and my partner is unemployed.

Due to the cut in electricity, all my food that has been donated to me or purchased on credit has spoiled in the fridge and freezer.I have had no lights, no wifi (which has been paid for) so my child is missing her home schooling, no food, no hot water and today I haemorrhaged. I have reported the landlord to the police as it is constructive eviction (he says he has a tenant willing to pay a higher rental which is ******* given our agreement). With my illness I am stuck with no phone (can’t charge without electricity), no wifi snd I spent my last airtime on hold for ESKOM FOR 45 MINUTES TONIGHT. She promised she would call me back if we got cut off! She DID NOT. I am trying to arrange to have the electricity turned back on with immediate effect as I have arranged to borrow funds to pay the arrears as stated above by close of business on Wednesday 11 November 2020.

If the landlord cannot pay, and I have suffered thousands of rands in losses plus being at constant risk with a life threatening illness, why can’t I make my own arrangement to pay? The landlord has behaved *******ly and will answer to the police but why can I not have services reinstated for THREE business days while I wait for borrowed funds to clear so I can pay?

This is beyond ridiculous and I will take this as high up as I have to in order to achieve a resolution, I will create a PR nightmare for you and if something life threatening happens to me and I cannot get help because of your inadequacy you can expect a MASSIVE damages claim.

Kindly reinstate the services with immediate effect to the premises and I will make sure you receive full payment of the arrears by Wednesday 11 November 2020.

You can contact me on ***.

Oh and please look how long I held for before speaking to the consultant who didn’t call me back as promised.

I trust this is in order and expect power reinstated by the time I wake up tomorrow. This is a human rights violation and I will NOT STOP until you do the right thing!!!!!!!!!
