Deeply dissapointed in service

Good day all

I moved into a new house and shortly after that the electricity was cut. This happened on the 17th of May 2016. I am a first time home owner and not knowing what to do or how to go about everything I called the contact centre to find out what time the customer service closes and I was told at 4. I left work a bit earlier that day but when I got there, I found that the place actually closes at 15.45 and not at 4 like I was initially told. The next day I went during my lunch time, which was shorter than normal as I had to work in my time for leaving earlier the previous day, to find a long queue of people and only 1 person assisting. I was then told that I need to pay R3950, R3000 being for a security deposit and R950 to get the bill in my name. I managed to get the money together and went during my lunch the following day and was then told of supporting documents I need to bring with. Couldn’t they have informed me about that the previous day?????

Got the documents together and then went the following day to try and sort this problem out. Got there and again there was only 1 person assisting so naturally I was not helped as I had to rush back to work. The following day, which is now 3 days without electricity, I went back again but again because of limited time and available counters, rushed back to work to ask if I couldn’t leave early to try and sort this problem out. I left work at 14.30, went there and was finally helped by someone. I completed the paperwork and the person that assisted me said that I should go to Absa in the meantime to make the payment.

While I was completing the documents I asked what the procedure would then be if I wanted to put in an electricity box and was informed that the R3000 would be refunded again. Again I ask what kind of Customer Service this is that you as the customer doesn’t get presented with all the necessary options and avenues you have to solve your problem.

I then asked if the electricity was going to put on that day and I was told that it would only be put on, on Monday. I then went to Absa to make the payment, went back to Eskom but the person who was assisting me wasn’t there anymore. I gave the proof of payment to the gentleman that was there, who stapled it to my documents which was still lying on the persons’ desk who previously assisted me. I had to stay with family members for the weekend and took all my perishables in fridge and freezer with, returning home on Sunday evening.

It is now Tuesday, I still have no electricity, my perishables all are ruined but that’s not even the worst of it. I have a 1 year old daughter, who's in this situation with me. A daughter that needs to be washed in cold water in winter no less.

I even tried calling the contact centre a few times and was told that they can only see my name, surname and ID number that is all, further there is no records under my name.

1 week and R4000 later and worse off than what I was in the beginning.

I will probably have to go in my lunch time again today although have lost all faith in Eskom already but what else can I do????????
