One of our tenants recently contacted me regarding an electrical bill of almost five thousand for a small flat. She and her partner both work and were paying around R400 per month for the last 6 months. They cook with gas and switch off the geyser until they return the next night. I was given all bills since January 2017 and noticed that the July bill was first estimated as the meter was about to change to 90,000 and the next reading resulted in a monthly reading of 2700 kWh and 40 kWh daily. Took pictures of the reading on 6. September and established 43 kWh daily since their last true reading on 22 August. On 19 September I again read the meter and the consumption was back to about 10 units per day. Eskom refused to listen to them and Mr Mentoor in Malmesbury refused to undertake anything. I immediately paid him to replace the meter with the agreement to have it testet and them refunded on 6th Sept if they are at fault. On 19 September Mr Mentoor excused him not having logged the payment, nor having read his mails for a fortnight due to being very "busy". I still have not received any confirmation or anything on his actions but a Mr. Coetzee confirmed they would do the meter change today, 20th. This is just a summary of many phone calls to someone who is very busy.
Will keep you posted
