4 months waiting for a new Transformer while sub contractor left project incomplete
As per complaint raised here on Hello Peter, the Transformer in our street Raditsila, Tsakane Ext 5 broke down on 21 May 2026. We did not phone the call enter as issue did not affect just one household but the whole street, we went into Eskom offices in Nigel and reported the matter to their staff member Thuli. So therefore we have no reference number, we were never given any. She advised the matter had been noted and that their technicians would come attend to the matter. A month went by with no feedback; we went back to the office to follow up by the end of June and Thuli advised a subcontractor had been appointed to start the project in our street and that they would begin working on the 1st of July. The contracted workers came and requested our ID copies, installed new meter boxes on the street poles, and new cables connecting those to our houses. They removed our old meter boxes inside the houses, that had our old meter numbers and advised those would no longer work. The new transformer would only be installed to work with the newly installed meters we were told. They also left new Prepaid cards with our house numbers and new Meter numbers (Meter number: ***) saying we will use them once the electricity is back on. I don't know if they have been activated yet, but the old ones are gone. They left promising to come install the transformer, but never came back even today. On Monday the 31st of August, we collected monies to pay for transport and send street committee members to go back to Nigel office and report that the contractor had not finished the project, and that some of the cables had since been ****** by ******* already because there is no electricity running through them. Thuli phoned the contractor while the residents were there, the man promised to come on Wednesday the 2nd of September to complete the work they had started with us. It is now the end of the week, and our 4th month waiting for the unknown. Please, we really need help from someone in charge because clearly no one is willing to help us on the ground level. Instead, we are being sent from pillar to post while we continue to stay in the dark. Attached is the new Meter numbers on the newly issued cards. Besides us being denied our basic human rights, while expected to partake in the local elections for municipalities coming up in November, I am very disturbed by the fact that Eskom claims they have appointed and paid 3rd parties via tender agreements, yet no work is being done instead Eskom's name is being dragged through the mud for poor service, I really believe these matters should be escalated to the highest office for *******ion investigation. And I personally will find ways to alert the CEO Mr Dan Marokane and Minister Ramokgopa via any whistleblowing routes I can find. And if the matter is not escalated for resolution, I will forward this to ***. Thuli is the one handling our case at Nigel.
