When we were approached to join the gym, we advised Collin that we are looking for a contract that can accommodate our 12 year old son who was 10 back then and Collin informed us that if my husband and I join as a couple, my son would be free. That was a whole lot of ****. When it was time to purchase our access cards, only then we found out that my son would be an additional charge. We were also told that we did not pay the R500 joining fee which we paid cash to Collin. We were fortunate to have kept our receipt as proof. On the 13 January my husband ,son and myself walked into the gym only to have walked into an oven, the air conditioning was not working, only one fan was on. We did a 15 minute cardio on the treadmill and left. By that evening, we started feeling fluish, by the next day, my son and I were extremely sick with flu like symptoms. We went to the GP two times in the space of two days, we were not getting better. I was then admitted to Ethekwini hospital were blood tests were done and were it was found out that I contracted Influenza A and was also being tested for swine flu. My son was then admitted to Umhlanga hospital the next day and bloods were also done for him and he too came out positive as Influenza A. The virus then spread to my dad who is a heart patient and he too had picked up the same virus. As much as we are looking for convenience in our lives, I think I would rather drive those extra kilometers to virgin active and receive good facilities. Escape gym needs to re evaluate their business ethics as well as their facilities.
