System Failure

I bought an off-grid solar system through this company. It was installed by an engineer. The system, although specced correctly, did not work. The battereis did not hold charge. Repeated complaints were met with - "your panel orientation is incorrect", "you don't get enough bulk charge" etc etc. This resulted in me being forced to purchase more panels and more batteries. this also did not work. The system did hold enough charge to get through the night.

More complaints - eventually it was found thet the wrong battery type had been supp****. I had purchased over R50,000 of incorrectly specced batteries.

Neither ERGS, nor the supplier are prepared to take responsibility for this mistake.

I was forced to purchase new battereis from a reputable supplier to get my system to work. It now works fine. Repeated emails and phone calls only result in one of the partners getting abusive on the phone.

Hi Diedrik thanks for the review, in short- You and your engineer claimed that an inverter was not communicating with the master inverter correctly, in good faith we supp**** you with a new inverter on the very day it was sent back to us, when inspecting the inverter it had extensive water damage, in such a way that the supplier would not fix nor replace it back to me, this included a dead short on multiple power supply points.

- Regarding the batteries, we only supply batteries from reputable companies, we also only provide warranties to our customers that the supplier provide us.

- Because the batteries was sent back to us out of warranty, the supplier was not willing to do lab tests on them, we on the other side did full test on the batteries free of charge.

- We also lent you batteries so you won’t be stuck without power, after the supplier refused to do so. (We still have not received these batteries back)

- After the test results was sent to both you and the supplier, it was made clear to us by you and your engineer that there was a dead short made to the batteries, resulting in 3 batteries losing cells, the remaining batteries showed that the AH rating was well below wat was in the spec, I recommended to the supplier in a meeting you arranged with the supplier myself and you, that the supplier make an effort to replace some batteries in good faith, this was rejected.

-I further went on testing batteries that came from the same batch yours did, connected in the same way you and your engineer claimed to have done it, and these batteries are still testing 100% health, how can I now prove that your batteries was faulty before you damaged the pack, when you were not truthful with the inverter from the start.

Never the less I requested the supplier to open one of the faulty batteries to verify acid levels or cell damage, I was informed that they have a back- log of two months, and are not very keen because of warranty issues.

Kind Regards

My contract is with you - I paid your company for a product. This product failed miserably. You are merely "passing the buck" and trying to get me to liaise with a manufacturer. This is not going to work. you failed to spec the batteries, failed to check the product, and then failed to follow up on possible problems when they were reported to you. As an example - if I buy a piece of chicken from a supermarket and it is rotten - the supermarked replaces it, they do not send me to the farmer! I am R50,000 out of pocket because your company failed to check, failed to specify and would not liaise with your own supplier. The issue is one between yourself and your supplier - you should not make it a client issue. cleary your warranties are worth nothing!

Hi Diedrik, once again thank you for your response, you are still not addressing the fact that you/ your engineer had a hand in damages that was done to one inverter and batteries, this issue will never be resolved if your attitude is one sided, we did not install your system, I do not know to what standards you installed, I can only comment on the facts. Please respect that.

We have no contract with you, we merely supp**** what your engineer required
Regarding the rotten chicken, if you buy a chicken, leave it in the sun for a week, and expect the shop to replace it with a fresh one, what would your expectations be, from both the shop and the farmer?
It is for the installer to follow up on potential problems, and act in a timely manner, we received the batteries for testing well out of warranties.
You are correct on the warranty once it has expired it is not worth the paper it is written on.
Kind Regards
