NO WARNING OF HIGH FEES AT THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT

After being checked out by medics who appeared at the scene of my car accident, they advised that they transport me to the nearest Mediclinic which was only 4kms away, despite me having no injuries. no rates or fees were discussed with me. i was therefore surprised to receive a bill of R3200 for this ambulance ride! when i followed up with the finance department, they rep**** that "There is a legislated tariff structure for ambulance services under the old NHRPL (National Health Reference Price List) and the current BHF (Board of Healthcare Funders)”. had i been informed of this at the scene of the accident, i would never had agreed to accept the ride, as i am not on medical aid and this amount is ludicrous. i was told that the medics "will not advise regarding the payments on the account, because they do not work for Finance department”. THIS MUST CHANGE! (interesting that this business is owned by Mediclinic Southern Africa)
