Er24 paramedic that works like doctors

I called Er23 on the 1st of October I had bad running stomach. Then I was hospitalized for 4 to 5 days. Know they said that I must pay them because this it was not a life threating situation. I'm confused because they are not Doctor's they are paramedics how did they know that it was not a life threating situation because they didn't run my sample. I even call Bestmed to give me a clarity they asked which ambulance did I request because they are using Er24. I told them that is what I did and Shaun from claims department said I must motivate my query so that he can send it to his boss. I think he is the one who must call the hospital or Bestmed for more information.
