ER CONSULTING it's time to shape up your doctors
<p>On Friday my dad rushed me to the trauma unit of Umhlanga hospital. Being asthmatic, my chest was congested, I was coughing continuously, my temperature was high, my pulse was 130 and I was severely dehydrated. </p> <p> </p> <p>One of the doctors named SM Ally, came to examine me. Without doing any xrays, blood tests or a proper examination she then prescribed a few antibiotics. My pulse was still really high and I was completely dehydrated so I felt unsure about the treatment that she prescribed. I asked the nurse, who was assisting the doctor, Nikki, if she could please ask the doctor to call my specialist as run this treatment by him first. As Dr. Ally is a General Practitioner and she did not know my health well. </p> <p> </p> <p>A few seconds later Dr. Ally rushes back to my rooms and screams at me that if I did not trust her I should get out of her hospital and find another doctor. At that time I was on a nebulizer which the doctor ordered the nurse to stop. </p> <p>The receptionist called the head doctor to come speak to me. I had explained my medical history as well as why i refused to take the intravenous antibiotics without my doctors concent. Dr. Visser said she understood and that she will contact my doctor. I was at the trauma unit for around 3 hours and all they gave me were two ponados. The nurses said that Dr. Visser spoke to my specialist and that they will be admitting me. </p> <p> </p> <p>The next day when the specialist came to see me, he had said that the doctors in trauma told him that I refused to receive any treatment because I have a needle phobia?!? I can assure you That i am completely needle friendly!</p> <p>This type of attitude, unprofessional behaviour needs to stop. I have heard horror stories of uneducated doctors but never have i believed it until it happened to me last week. </p> <p>ER Consulting, it's time to put your doctors in order before something worse happens to another patient.</p>
