My son damaged his thumb while playing in the pool during the December holidays.

We took him through to the hospital and waited in casualties for 3 hours before we were seen! We then went for x-rays, and back to the casualties, only to be told he was fine and nothing was wrong. At this stage his thumb joint was quite swollen and he was in a lot of pain. But we are not Drs, so off we went.

2 and a half hours later we get a call beack from casualties to be told that the Dr on duty did not pick up a fracture on the x-ray, that the x-ray department did, and we must come back at once.

When we returned, we were told by the Dr that we would not be charge for her fee as she did not pick the problem up! However i have recieved her bill! I am stunned at the level of service we are recieving from a private facillity and find it totally unacceptable. My child goes to casualties and this ends up costing R2000!!!!! Some of which was for a Drs fee that could not read an x-ray!

The hospital seriously needs to change this unit as its seriously bringing the level of the hospital down! URGENTLY!!!!
