I inquired and purchased a solar retrofit kit from Enviruheat. Their price (including installation) was very good. It has now been a month since the installation.

In the first week of using the solar retrofit kit, the factory settings on the geyserwise timer was found to be poor as the geyser was not heating in the evenings on AC power, I had to refer to the user manual to control the heating program times.

Another week later, I detected an intermittent leak from the pipes above my kitchen ceiling, it was in an area where the new pipes were installed. The installer inspected the pipes but could not see a leak, it is suspected that a possible pin hole leak from an old galvanized pipe might be the problem, however this suggestion can only be confirmed if that section of ceiling is opened up. There was no call out fees for the inspection.

I advise homeowners to first do a bit of research when choosing solar systems, have a chat to other people that use solar systems in your neighborhood. Research on the internet was very informative. Factors like positioning the collector panel is important, I assumed that I would get up to 8 hours of sunlight on the north facing side of my roof, however there are tall trees on my boundary that block out the direct sunlight from 3pm in the afternoons. 3 trees had to be felled, hopefully my neighbour will oblige to reduce the number of tall trees on his side of the property.

I have options (at additional costs) to move the solar collector panel to another area on my carport roof (no obstructions to sunlight there). On planning plumbing installations, I also advise on running the pipes on the wall just under the roof eave so the plumbing maintenance to see pipe leaks and repairs, become easier, and damage to the ceiling & flooding the house is avoided.
