******* service and business practices
I brought a Dell laptop in to get fixed. I was told the warranty had already expired. I didn't have the receipt with me and didn't know the exact date I purchased it, so I took their word for it. I left the laptop there and a few days later they sent me a quote of R11500 to replace the motherboard. A bit shocking since the laptop only cost R8000. In the time they had the laptop I found the receipt and saw that when I brought it in the first time, (when they told me the warranty had expired) it was actually the VERY last day of the warranty. The laptop was brought from Dion Wired on 25 May 2017, and I took it in on 24 May 2018. So even though the warranty was about to expire, it hadn't yet.
I spoke to Wesley, the manager. He was as helpful as he could have been. He made photocopies of my invoice and said he'd contact Dell about doing the repair under warranty, as he agreed, as per my receipt, that the laptop was in fact still under warranty when I initially brought it in.
He contacted me a few days later and said that Dell had rejected the repair and said the laptop was not under warranty.
Of course I contacted Dell, and was horrified when the agent I spoke to told me that Ensure are NOT an authorised Dell repair center. He also said that due to all this time wasted, the laptop is now absolutely not under warranty and I need to pay for a new motherboard, which he also confirmed is R6200 and not R11 500.
