Appalling Service from Estate Agents

I have been interested in a particular property for some time. The first agent, Siyanda at the Broad acres offices who assisted me was very unprofessional in how she conducted herself regarding the possible sale of this home. I requested to view the property the second time and this agent who, granted had to wait ten minutes for me to arrive, was not bothered to see if the home was open so that I could view it. I then contacted the senior manager to ask that another agent assist me. He at first listened to me but then later in both the phonecall and in text messages became quite defensive. I needed clarity on the property that only an agent could give me. I had asked several times for him to meet me at the property and he refused to assist me. I politely asked for him to refer me to another senior agent who will have the time and patience to assist me. I had requested almost 24 hours prior that he meets me at the property, of which he sent me a whatsapp message at the 11th hour saying that he is very busy and as such can only meet me at the office. My response to him was cordial but forthright in that I was not purchasing a vacuum cleaner but a home which is a huge decision and as such I needed professional and expert assistance from the agency on the home that they were approached to sell. It was at this time that he accused me of bullying and shouting at him (howver we only ever spoke once and then corresponded over whatsapp) and that he was getting quite tired of it. This I found to not only be defensive behavior on his part but highly unbecoming of an estate agent. I was to say the least appalled at his reaction to my cordial message to him, simply requesting for someone else to assist me.

Engel & Völkers apologies for the experience the Buyer had at the Broadacres branch. At Engel & Völkers we try our utmost best to apply “World’s Best Practices” across the board through extensive training and retraining of our Area Partners. Our model caters for the listing and selling of Properties provided to us by our Sellers and although every care is taken that these homes are in a great condition, we are offering them to our buyers “Voetstoots”. We give our Buyers ample time to inspect homes to satisfy themselves of the condition of these properties. Should a Buyer have a grievance about a home, our recourse always stays with the Seller to agree to a solution. It saddens us that we could not completely satisfy the Buyer and conclude a successful transaction with her, but we wish her well in finding her dream home.
