On 06/08/2016 my wife, daughter and daughter-in-law checked in to board Emirates flight EK768 at OR Tambo. We had booked months in advance and the ticket reflected luggage allowed as 30kg per passenger. Thereafter Emirates stated that passengers booked after a certain date will be allowed 2x26kg bags. My wife called the travel agent to change their tickets to reflect 2x23kg allowance. He said it was not possible.

My family checked in with one bag each weighing 30kg or less. The lady at check-in-counter, Ms Nokubonja, said that they cannot check in the 30kg bag as the system reflected 2x23 kg allowance and their bags were overweight. We explained what the travel agent had said. She called her supervisor, who also insisted that they may not carry a bag weighing more than 23 kg but 2x23kg is allowed. My family than proceeded to shuffle luggage from the big bags into the cabin bags and all six bags were checked in.

We insisted in getting a new print out of tickets that reflected that 2x23 kg were allowed to avoid problems on the return journey. The supervisor proceeded to the Emirates desk to print the tickets. These reflected the same information as the original tickets (i.e. 30kg allowed). At this stage, after an hour of stress and frustration, I was absolutely furious.

We were not allowed to exchange proper good-byes and last minute chat, advice etc. to my family. The supervisor tried to blame the check-in-lady. However she as the supervisor & Emirates Airlines should take the blame for the saga. It seems both Nokubonja & her supervisor had no knowledge of rules that app**** to passengers booked before and after a certain date. In this modern age of advanced IT technology, how is it that both Nokubonja and the supervisor were giving us misinformation?

Emirates airlines owes me and my family a written apology and compensation for what we had to endure at the check-in process.
