Experience with my delayed baggage for 8 days
My absolutely devastating experience with Emirates Airline. What happened to me goes far beyond a simple baggage delay - it was a complete destruction of my professional reputation and emotionally damaging.
During my critical business trip from June 7-16, 2025, Emirates delayed my baggage for the entire trip, and this happened multiple times. When I travelled from Johannesburg to Houston on the 7th of June, my bag which contained important business files and attire didn't arrive. No one knew where my bag was. It took me asking people to go to Johannesburg Emirates to investigate and get responses about where my bag was. Eventually I was told my bag would arrive with the next flight to Houston on the 10th of June, but it didn't. There was poor communication, and I had to follow up again multiple times. I was then told to expect it the following day on the 11th, and it didn't arrive. Then there was complete silence. The staff in Houston had no idea, and the staff in South Africa also started saying they didn't know where the bag was again - as if they don't work for the same company. So my bag was delayed again because of their incompetence and multiple operational failures. When I got to Dubai on my way back, I eventually went to their luggage claims and spent more than 2 hours demanding that they search for my bag as no one knew where it was. Eventually it was found and was sent back to South Africa. It arrived when I also got back. This made the entire purpose of the trip pointless, as I couldn't achieve any of the outcomes for going to Houston. I have since attempted to be reasonable and requested to be compensated for a fair amount so I could make plans to travel back soon and meet up with potential business partners.
This wasn't just an inconvenience - it destroyed everything I had worked for professionally. I missed crucial business meetings because I had no appropriate attire. I failed to submit time-sensitive reports to my Managing Director. I appeared unreliable and unprofessional to American business partners who I had been building relationships with for months. The damage to my reputation is permanent and irreversible.
The emotional toll has been devastating. I have never felt so helpless and humiliated in my professional life. Standing in business meetings wearing the same clothes for days, having to explain repeatedly why I couldn't deliver what I promised - it was soul-crushing. The stress and anxiety from this experience continues to affect me daily.
What makes this even worse is how Emirates has treated me since then. After I documented all my losses and submitted a detailed complaint, there were slow and poor responses to my emails.
When Orsolya from customer affairs responded, she offered me an insulting $1,000 settlement and explained it was only for essential items. When I explained that this amount doesn't even begin to cover my actual damages, emotional and professional damages, she became dismissive and unprofessional. She refused to investigate my case properly, wouldn't negotiate in good faith, and then had the audacity to declare my case "closed" without my consent. Her final email suggesting I should "give Emirates another opportunity" after this nightmare shows how completely out of touch they are.
I have been desperately trying to resolve this matter reasonably. Emirates refused to even consider negotiating. They have shown zero empathy, zero professionalism, and zero regard for how their operational failure has destroyed my life.
The way Emirates has treated me is unconscionable. If you are planning to travel with Emirates, especially for business or important events, please reconsider. When things go wrong - and they do go wrong - you will be treated with contempt, ignored, and dismissed. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in my life.
I trusted Emirates as a premium airline for my critical trip. They not only failed operationally but showed complete disregard for the human impact of their failure. No one should have to endure what I have been put through.
