Damaged baggage - offer of compensation dishonest

In July 2018 I travelled on Emirates from Rome to Johannesburg. When I received my suitcase it had a hole in the side of it and the zip was torn out. I immediately showed the Personnel and I was offered compensation in writing by Customer Services and they have repeatedly advised me that they will compensate me but despite numerous requests I have never received one cent of compensation to date.
