Confiscated and lost

In 2019 I flew on an International flight (relocation) from JHB to Europe on Emirates Airline (booking ref QFYCS6). I had an extra luggage (Bag 2) 23kg, which was paid for. My other 23kg luggage (Bag 1) was overweight, which I paid for as well. As I was about to board, I was stopped stating that my luggage was stopped for search and I needed to remove some items. I was taken this this room where I was asked to unlock my bag (Bag 1) and they removed deodorants x21 (150ml). I was only allowed to take 6. They informed me that someone will have to pick them up. I got to my destination and that very bag was missing. I contacted the airline and was informed that the bag was delayed and will be delivered to me in a few days. It got to me damaged, which they replaced for a smaller one.

A week after my arrival, my sister went to Emirates at the JHB airport to pick up my items which they removed. After an hour, they informed her that they could not find the deodorants. I contacted Emirates on 2 occasions to request for my items, or be refunded for the value of the same and refunded for the overweight I was charged for on my luggage.

The response received was that they cannot find my items and cannot provide me with any refunds and I should claim from my insurance. I tried to claim from the insurance who stated that this should be refunded by the airline as this was their negligence and charge. Emirates has not responded to me since.

Nearly 2 years after the flight, I am at a loss. Disappointing service for an airline who claims to be TOP. They refuse to take liability for their mess up. It is their responsibility to ensure the safety of items when confiscated. I did not sign to have these donated. Additionally, with the removal of these items, I should be reimbursed for the overweight to that total of weight of items that did not fly with me. Zero customer obsession and Zero ownership taken. As long as they have their money, they care less.

Is this really the airline we want to support?
