WORST CAMPING EXPERIENCE - 2 Dec 2017

Emerald River Resort services and camping experience is not what we expected.

We booked with Emerald River Resort first we can't book for just one night and we needed to pay for 2 nights if we wanted to camp there the Saturday evening (OKAY no problem) on arrival everything went well, we got to our Camp site, got settled in and when we wanted to go to the bathroom block, we needed a key went to reception and they said we need to pay R350 for a key and then we only have 30 min in the bathroom then they lock it again.

The keys we received was the wrong keys and didn't open the gate (when we went back to reception that was their last key) The camp site was empty and there was about 6 guest camping with tents , when my sister arrived at (after us and checked in) they said they hope that we not camping with tents only caravans allowed but there was only 1 caravan and the rest was tents, the lady who checked my sister in said well they will take this up in their Monday meeting (after my sister said well we have already set up and there is just tents outside?? )

We ended up using the men's bathroom which was extremely dirty and no hot water each shower only has 1 tap which is cold water.

There were guest that was booked in by the chalets on the caravan site playing loud music and drinking because they couldn't book in until after two this was going on from 11 o'clock in the morning. There was a function at the bottom by the conference room but all guest that was attending the function ended up partying by the camping site because they can't book in until 2PM. While we have kids and the other camping guest kids running and playing around the camp site, one of the drivers that has been drinking reversed and wasn't observing the kids around him, if I wasn't behind his car to tell him to stop who knows what would have happened.

The lady at reception Veronica was not helpful at all and the staff in the shop was lying against the counter of the pay point as we wanted to pay and didn't even greet us.

I will not recommend this camping site to anyone, we ended up going home the same day, after paying for two night, dirty bathrooms, no hot water and bad service this experience and a long drive from home was more of an expense than and enjoyable boating and camping weekend with my family and their kids.

I would recommend management to review their staff and camping site and make some changes.

The site was nice and clean, but for the staff and their bathrooms unacceptable.
