My husband booked our 10th Anniversary dinner and stay over at the Emerald Casino, as we wanted to enjoy the Vaal the next day…
This is by far the worst Casino/resort I have stayed at (the only one I've ever complained about). I'll regret forever that I celebrated my Anniversary there.
We wanted to stay in the hotel but were told that the Hotel was fully booked and we were recommended by the Hotel reception to stay in the River Resort Chalets….
THE WEBSITE PERCEPTION of accommodation: This is a very clean and modern standalone chalet that is air-conditioned.
THE REALITY: The chalet is bordering another chalet at the back and we were divided by a room door… (Which we were not told) There is no sound-proofing between the rooms we could hear the noise of the other visitors till very late. The rooms look like they were originally built well but then run down due to lack of maintenance, and poor management. The chalet was dirty not to mention the mold in the bathroom….the bathroom taps are spraying water out, so everything is wet. The bath towels have a dense smell. And the chalets furniture is in a terrible state. (Torn and smelly) the floor is stained brown from dirt; you can see the place is half cleaned. There is no air conditioner function as advertised only a roof fan well enough to make the temperature tolerable but the fan made an awful noise... These issues are made more frustrating by the lack of services and attitude we received from the reception and the POTHOLES in the resort we had to dodge…???
My stay here was really a disappointment. It was unlike any other resort or Casinos I have ever experienced.
The restaurant inside the casino where we had our dinner “High Stakes” the food was good but once again the service was poor, the restaurant manager had to assist us because the waitress was so slow….we requested that our table had to be made up a bit because it’s our 10th wedding anniversary to our disappointment it was done so poorly….. The restaurant also lacked atmosphere…there is no music or warm feeling we could hear everyone’s conversations around us….
A stay or visit here is regrettable for anyone who has stayed or visited any other Casino and resorts and is aware that for about the same money you could have stayed at a nice place that is competently managed and far more upper class.
