Management's and security rude and uncaring
the way I was treated by security and the manager at the security checkpoint for access to the Aqua Dome and game area. When I arrived, I was searched by security and was told that I could not take a sealed, brand-new packet of sweets into the area. I was informed that I should purchase sweets inside instead. I was instructed to return the sweets to my vehicle before I would be allowed to enter. I explained to the security staff that I am diabetic and that I carry sweets with me for this reason. Despite explaining this, I was again told that I could simply purchase something inside. I found this response extremely concerning. These were not prohibited items, alcohol, or anything that posed a security or safety risk. They were sealed sweets that I carry for a legitimate health-related reason. I then asked to speak to a manager. The manager who came to the checkpoint rolled her eyes at me and proceeded to explain that I still could not take the sweets inside. Her attitude made an already frustrating situation considerably worse. At no point did I feel that my concern was being taken seriously or that anyone was attempting to find a reasonable solution. I understand that Emerald Casino may have policies regarding outside food and beverages, and I appreciate that security staff have a responsibility to enforce those policies. However, there should surely be reasonable consideration for circumstances where a customer has a legitimate medical or health-related need to carry a particular item. What concerns me particularly is that I was repeatedly told that I could simply buy something inside. This gave me the impression that the policy was being enforced primarily to ensure that customers purchase items from the Aqua Dome/game area, rather than taking into account the individual circumstances of the customer. I find this unacceptable, particularly from a well-known establishment such as Emerald Casino. Customers should not be made to feel dismissed, embarrassed or inconvenienced when they explain that they have a genuine health-related reason for carrying something as simple as a packet of sweets.
