Poor Customer Service

I recently purchased a DSTv Explora 2 decoder from Pick n Pay on special. Include in the purchase was an installation voucher for one point.

I first attempted to make use of this installation voucher on Friday 31/03/2017. I called the listed call center and was told that the call center dealt purely with JHB-based installations (Why then would the number be printed on a nationally distributed product?). I was put through to Durban where a lady answered, asked me whether I had my smartcard number, voucher number and decoder number. I told her I did and she said that she would transfer me through to installations. I was transferred and linked back to the lady twice after 5+ minutes of a ringing phone with no answer. She took my details and I did not hear back from her.

On Monday 03/04/2017 I once again called the call center number listed on the voucher that I received. Again I was met with the information that this call center did not service Durban (Where the product was sold). So I was put through to Durban again, spoke to a similar-sounding woman and again, waited on the phone for installations, who never answered.

I called back the national call center and asked to speak to a floor manager. He was off today, apparently. Which was astounding to me. I spoke to a very rude member of staff who, again, took my details. Once again I am yet to hear from that staff member. Which at this stage is unsurprising. I also wouldn't want to call people telling them I worked for Ellies/Elsat.

I finally called a number I found on HelloPeter and spoke to a woman by the name of Beverley. She has taken my details and told me she will speak to management and have it sorted out. Whether it will be sorted out or not remains to be seen.

My major concerns with this entire process are the following:

1. How can you distribute a product nationally, with a cell center number for one area alone? Who decided that that was an efficient allocation of call center resources.

2. Why do people keep taking my details if they don't intend to get back to me? Don't take my number if you have no intention to call me. That defeats the purpose completely.

3. Why do your staff all have an attitude like they are the ones being burdened with my call? It's 2017; your poor rating on this site represents your staff's attitude towards their work.

4. Why not just be accountable? If the installation is going to take three weeks rather tell me that. Don't duck questions and let phones ring for hours. If you're busy say so. People may be a little less agitated.

All in all this has been one of my worst customer service experiences ever. I have never been treated so badly and made to feel like I'm in the wrong simply for wanting to cash in on a voucher that YOU supp****. I would really appreciate it if my faith in Ellies/Elsat could be reinstated but at this stage it's looking rather dim.

Reviewer Update

I have been dealt with personally by a representative from the Durban branch who has seen to it that my issue is resolved and dealt with accordingly. This was a massive relief considering what I had gone though up until this stage.
