Ellies surge protector didn't work

I bought an expensive Ellies surge protector to put on my home marine aquarium to protect the pumps etc from being damaged by unstable power. I was unable to register my products for the Ellies insurance as they do not have serial numbers. However I have had 2 pumps burn out due to power surges still coming through the surge protector. I am very disappointing by this, the pump burning out caused my aquarium to crash and I lost half of my fish collection and some corals. It's upsetting that I took steps to prevent this from happening and yet Ellies let me down.
