Bad airline

As a responsible person I wanted to warn anyone wanting to travel, to avoid like the plague flying Egypt airline. Let me tell you why. Let’s go back to 2020 when I booked a trip with my wife to the Red Sea to dive. We were diving with Emperor. Covid struck and we could not fly. With emperor no problem carry it over to next year. Egypt air promised a refund for which I am still waiting. Along came 2021 and before buying tickets on Egypt air we ascertained that Egypt had a problem with us traveling from South Africa. Emperor. No problem postpone another year. So 2022. All booked from Cape Town to Cairo via Egypt air. They arrange a British airlines aircraft for the Cape Town Johannesburg leg. Well BA gets into financial difficulties and that leg is cancelled. Egypt air who we booked with and paid stated “not our problem book another carrier to Johannesburg and pay for it”. This we did rather than lose out on the entire trip. Got to Cairo and flew in to Hurghada where our Emperor boat was waiting. Suddenly told that on the return leg from Hurghada to Cairo we were automatically changed from 9 am flight to a 5 am flight. This would mean that we would have to get up at 2:30 am to make the flight. Request to change the flight fell on deaf ears. They had business class seats but if you changed that leg to business class you had to exchange all of the other legs to business class at a cost of R 30 000 for the two of us. Eventually two seats were found on the 11am flight which then cost R 3600 to change to despite out protests that they changed us to an inconvenient flight time in the first place. Welll we left the next day. Then we sit at Cairo airport preparing to leave at 11 pm on Egypt Air which means that we will easily get to Jhb to catch the flight at 10 am to Cape Town when we get a friendly message to say that we are delayed one hour. We board as promised and at 12 midnight- take off time we don’t take off. Instead we sit on the tarmac until 1:20 am. We take off and land in JHB just in time to miss our connecting flight to Cape Town. So new tickets are booked and bought at a cost of R 5000. We will get home by midnight if we are lucky. As I said flying Egypt Air has hidden costs and complexities. It’s not for the feint hearted. I have never met a more toxic, uncompromising and unfair organisation in my life.
