Disappointed to say the least..

BE CAREFUL OF DEALING WITH THIS COMPANY!!

I have spoken to Bianca about the refund due for a surround sound CH-7353 which was taken to their office in Mellville on the 20 August 2022. I have the receipt for the return to Egadgets.

Bianca informed me she would sort the matter out but to date there has been no sign of the refund. The reference number for this matter as given by Bianca is 24771.

I look forward to getting a call from Bianca in this matter!

This is very unprofessional behavior and NOT expected from an online store. I will NOT be using them again and I strongly advise those that intend to, to think carefully.

Good day. We hope you are well.

As per our records you purchased a surround sound system which was apparently giving a distorting sound and therefore proceeded to our Melville store on the 19th of August where we replaced it with a brand new one the very same day and time. Our usual procedure would have been to send the "Faulty unit" for assessment first before determining how to proceed but nevertheless we did go the extra mile and swopped it out immediately for you. You returned to our store on the 20th of August saying the new unit had the same problem which was very unlikely that 2 brand new surround systems would have the same issue, but we agreed to refund you. We did go over and beyond our processes to assist you.
Of-course, your refund is on payment run and will be done soon. I will personally contact you once we have sent through POP.
Thank you.

Reviewer Update
Hi there,

The person who wrote the initial review was my dad.

I’m the person who actually bought the system, returned it and got it swapped it out for another, only to have the second one have the same problem. So I returned it for a refund. On 20 August, as you say.

It’s not THAT unlikely, in my opinion, that a particular brand of sound system would have RCA problems. The sound system in question also has Bluetooth, which I guess is what most people use, so perhaps that brand includes RCA inputs as an afterthought. But Bluetooth wasn’t what I needed it for; RCA was.

Your staff didn’t know what RCA *was*, didn’t have cables, and didn’t have any devices to plug it into. That’s why it wasn’t tested before swapping it out. Nonetheless, “old technology” or not, the product description said it worked with RCA, which is why I felt I wanted first a swap-out, and then a refund.

At that point, I was well prepared to come onto Hellopeter and write you a GOOD review, because I thought you had indeed been very helpful.

But now I find your reply most unsatisfactory.

When I returned the unit on 20 August (a Saturday), and gave my proof of banking details, the receptionist said the refund would be processed “on Monday”. Which I took to mean Monday 22 August. I don’t believe that was an unreasonable inference to make.

When I heard no word, I phoned again the week of 29 August (I forget which day), to ask what was happening with my refund. The receptionist said that she would follow up, but “Just so you know,” she said, “refunds take 10 to 14 days.”

On 8 September (now well over 14 days since the return), I tried to phone the number I’d been phoning all along, but there was no answer, so I sent a WhatsApp instead, explaining the story and that I was waiting for a refund.

The response I received was, “Good day Sir. I will follow up and advise”.

No response, so I followed up on WhatsApp again on 15 September. The response was “Hi. Checking with accounts.”

Then, after a few more exchanges between eGadgets and my dad, and eGadgets and my wife, I received an email from Biancia saying, “Good day. Hope you are well. Kindly send through your bank details and I will hand it over to accounts to have this processed.”

I rep**** with my banking details.

The next day (which was late Saturday night), I received another email from Chantal, apparently having no knowledge of Biancia’s mail, asking for my banking details.

We sent the details to her, too, but not before my wife phoned the store livid, because at that point, we were all convinced that you guys were just stalling. Unfortunately, no-one could help my wife over the phone, because “the admin people don’t work weekends”.

“Huh,” we thought. “That’s interesting. Then why are admin people emailing me at 10 pm on a Saturday night?” (Incidentally, the abovementioned phone call was on the following Sunday, when the store was open).

Anyway, we had zero correspondence since sending the bank details to both Biancia and Chantal, until we posted this review and you rep****.

At no point was I led to believe that you were in any way reluctant to refund my money, or that it would take anywhere longer than 14 days. In fact, I was initially led to be believe that it would take no more than a COUPLE of days.

I see you’ve now paid the refund. Thanks for that. I’m just disappointed that it took so long. And that it took a Hellopeter review to get you to finally pay it.
