EGM - Master ********* and *******
Wildtrak
I enquired about a vehicle I was interested in. I specifically phoned George and asked “what is wrong with the bakkie, what faults are there?” so I could prepare myself for any additional costs.
Specific words of George were “daai bakkie is spotless hoor. Hy het nie ‘n merkie op nie”. I took his word for it.
I wanted the bakkie as soon as possible as it was a trade-in/cash deal. George told me the vehicle needs a roadworthy but it was failed due to a cracked rear tail light. He was waiting for the replacement from Ford. I understood, waited patiently.
As a business owner, time away from my work is money lost and problems created. I asked if we could meet at Grassmere at 8am. This would have enabled me to spend less time away from my work.
I was told there is no way he leaves at 4:30 to meet me anywhere. He can leave between 6:30 and 7am. Which means he’ll be there between 10 and 11. (2-3 additional hours lost out of my day) Fine. I had to move a few appointments around, but I wanted the vehicle. So I as the client I made the compromise... Take it or leave it scenario. I bit it off and accepted.
Trade in was arranged. Collection time was arranged. I took a colleague with, who by accident happens to be someone who bought a Mitsibushi Triton bakkie at EGM a while ago and had a very bad sales experience himself. He warned me against EGM, I didn’t listen and felt everything’s on board. I like George. He’s been upfront with me about everything from the start. Yeah, wishful thinking...
Got to collection. I drove 100 odd zkm’s to get there, moved appointments around, etc...
The windscreen was damaged beyond repair with more than 10 different cracks/chips. We told George, this windscreen is beyond repair (we do automotive and commercial glass, we know relatively well when a windscreen has reached that point). George immediately comforted us, saying not to worry, they’ll pay for the replacement. No problem. We said we could do it cheaper than places like PG Glass and Glassfit, because we do. I even went to Glassfit and got a quotation that exceeded R6k.
We charged George R4.5k or around there.
To this day George denies that he ever agreed to them carrying the cost. He says he said they will pay for the repair of the windscreen, not replacement. Well I can assure you as someone with glass industry experience, there is no way on earth we would ever have agreed that the windscreen can be repaired. I paid R70k to settle the balance after the trade in, so I would never have agreed to buy a vehicle and have the windscreen replaced at my own cost, if George only settled to have it repaired. It’s beyond repairable. PG Glass won’t even repair 90% of the chips if they were individually on the windscreen, because of the severity.
I was politely informed that management decided they won’t carry the costs of the windscreen replacement. He denies he ever promised to carry the costs of replacement, in front of a witness I had with me, both working in the glass industry.
There are 2 dents on the left roof post, 1 on the tailgate and a huge clearly visible scratch on the right rear door. So much for being spotless right?
What George thought was a spare key, is actually a spare wheel lock key. He didn’t seem to know. But again, promises left right and centre the key is back at the office. A new key coded at Ford is R4k. I have the quote.
Then after driving it for a day or two, I noticed tyre pressure is lost on the rear left wheel. Took it to Tyre Mart in Pretoria. They repaired the flat, but I asked them to check all tyre pressures so I could set the tyre pressure monitoring system correctly.
“Sir, your spare wheel is at 1.3 bar. It’s too flat. Let us check it for punctures as well. But first, we don’t see a toolkit to take off the spare wheel”.
So yeah, that’s another R800 out of my pocket.
What’s even worse is, the cracked tail light which the vehicle apparently failed the roadworthy for and I had to wait an extra day for? It is still cracked! It was never even replaced!
After I was promised on Friday by George he’ll source me a cheaper window supplier, since he is a ***** (I called hom that yes!), we’re at Thursday the following week already. Not a single word any further. Everything was just keft to blow over I guess. They have their money. Not their problem any longer.
So forgive me, but in my humble opinion you guys are a bunch of ******* who couldn’t care less about your clients and their sales experience! ***** and making empty promises just to secure the sale! So here I sit with around R20k worth of extra costs, costs would have made me second guess whether I can afford this purchase or not. Costs I was promised weren’t for my own pocket.
Well let me tell you, I have a lot of business connections in Pretoria. My review will be given to every single connection I have, Facebook group I belong to, Hellopeter. You name it. What a stupid business decision to deny customer satisfaction to save R20k. Your own nation? JOU EIE MENSE! Skaam julle man!
I was **** to my face! I was deceived over the phone! I was manipulated in order to get the deal sealed. What do I call you? *******? ***ken ***** George, ***ken *****!
