Unauthorised Subscription Charge – Deceptive Business Practice
Subject: Unauthorized Subscription Charge – Deceptive Business Practice
I recently booked a flight through E-Dreams and provided my credit card details for payment. During the booking process, I was offered a "discount option," which I selected, assuming it was a legitimate savings offer. However, without my clear consent, E-Dreams used my credit card details to sign me up for a 12-month subscription that I never knowingly agreed to. At no point was it made explicitly clear that by selecting the discount, I would be enrolled in a paid subscription.
This is a misleading and deceptive practice, likely in violation of both POPIA (Protection of Personal Information Act) and the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) in South Africa.
I demand: An immediate cancellation of this unauthorised subscription. A full refund of any charges deducted from my account. Clarity on how my personal and payment information was used without my explicit consent.
If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will escalate it to: The Information Regulator of South Africa (for possible POPIA violations). The National Consumer Commission (NCC) for misleading and unfair business practices. My bank to dispute these unauthorised charges.
I expect a swift resolution to this matter and a response confirming the cancellation and refund.
