SHOCKING BUSINESS PRACTICE BY eDreams - online travel agent
Please be very very forewarned in dealing with eDreams, especially when in collaboration with SAA. I recently booked a R24K airticket for a family member, a month in advance of the flight, to be told by the family member, within 14 hours of booking, that the destination airport wasn't right. Despite then trying everything possible to work within the eDreams systems, about four different overseas online consultants refused to offer any sensible assistance. In fact, the one misinformed me about possible flights from that destination to the correct one, saying there were none (it is a remote and crime riddled area and I trusted the consultant's knowledge). This led me to having no choice, but to cancel the eDreams ticket and rebook through a local travel agent, a new ticket - only to discover I could have indeed found a flight from the incorrect city to the right one. They therefore in essence, proceeded to take R24K from me with no interest in a refund, despite hours and hours with call centre agents, within 24 hrs of the ticket purchase, of trying to find a solution. They would have most certainly sold that seat within the month and I wonder to this day if they didn't receive a double fare on that seat. In all correspondence with them subsequently, eDreams have ducked and dived behind the airline (SAA in this instance) saying only SAA can approve a refund ~ and SAA locally and internationally, say only eDreams can approve it; that it has nothing to do with them. In my endless calls to try and get my (not insubstantial amount of money back), I was told by someone who could 'see' the eDreams accounting of the transaction on their system, that it was not standard nor correct procedure. I will NEVER use them again as everything about the experience smacked of a racket. I appreciate there are rules/T's and C's, however these should be there to protect both company and client, not to exploit paying customers in manipulative and punitive ways when a genuine mistake has been made. I guess like many, they get too big to care ~ may that be their downfall one day.
