Give them an inch and they'll try take a mile.

Be SUPER careful when considering Edge Fitness. They practice very predatory business models and you'd best believe they are ONLY interested in the contract they have you sign or buying out gyms to try mine their past clients.

I was a member of Bay Fitness back in 2019. I closed my contract after I completed the year and went onto a month to month system - take note - month to month is STILL a contract! I am and was aware of this but duly gave my notice. We recieved a hard copy of the cancellation in person as well as emails confirming they were aware of us leaving the gym and that we were paid in full.

In 2021 I started receiving debt collection emails, so I contacted the owner - Desiree. She apologized profusely and confirmed my contract was closed and she was aware of it and that she would remove my name from the system.

In November of 2023, Edge Fitness acquired Bay Fitness and *magically*, a new debt collection agency now sends me a letter of demand with a 7 day threat of action.

I instantly got in my car and drove to the gym. Not only are the staff unwilling to even help, they're rude about it too. So I get hold of this useless debt collector - Amica - and over a series of calls and emails, provided all the correspondence proving the closure of the account. The lady I spoke to said they were being flooded with similar stories (there were other irate people at the premises as well when I went to the gym) and that they would get back to me.

Nothing happens.

I get a bit concerned and call back to follow up. I'm told it's a large number of people and they are STILL wading through it all weeks later.

Radio silence over the Christmas break.

4th of January - boom. Fresh new letter of demand. I call again and they can't find me on the system with my ID or cellphone number. Eventually she takes the reference in the email and finds my account. This new person wants me to start again and resend ALL the proof and correspondence. I told her it's not my job and they must refer to previous correspondence.

All you get out of Edge is "We purchased Bay Fitness and it's under new management" but if they're not the ones collecting the money, or the company Amica is representing - who is???

At this point I'm done. Send me a court date, I have all the proof IN WRITING. But if you're going to cost me time in fruitless phone calls and emails, I will make sure everyone who will listen knows. I'll pay for a flier and have it distributed outside your gym. Keep pushing.

TLDR: they're a sketchy bunch who will do anything to tie you to a punitive contract and even if you escape, they'll STILL come after you.
