BEWARE of Edge Engravers!

A word of caution to anyone considering using Edge Engravers for their engraving needs - If you have anything of value to you, proceed with caution. If it’s a cheap nameplate you’d like engraved, they’re probably fine. But think twice if it is something of even remote value.

Unfortunately I had an unpleasant recent experience with them where they botched the engraving of a brand new gold plated Stethoscope worth thousands of Rands. They were unwilling to take responsibility for their mistake nor did they have adequate insurance in place to cover my item for their botched engraving. Their explanation was: “It doesn’t affect the function of the item” - Which is a laughable explanation to say the least. If it had been a ring or watch, would a botched engraving affect the function of the item, of course not. It is an aesthetic consideration, not functional seeing as engraving itself is aesthetic and not a functional modification. There was zero remorse shown by them and they have since elected to ignore my emails requesting a fair resolution to their substandard work.

The so-called “expert” at Edge Engravers even had the gall to offer the following apology whilst shrugging his shoulders when I collected it: “Sorry I apologised but there’s nothing I can do about it, I won’t charge you the R60 engraving fee”. This was a ridiculous attempt at resolving the issue, despite the very gracious offer of waiving the R60 fee over a R8000 Stethoscope. The worst part is that I wasn’t even contacted prior to collection to notify me that they had botched the engraving.

With engravers it isn’t about how many times they’ve done the engraving well, it’s about how many they’ve gotten wrong and how they subsequently handled it. How you handle mistakes says a lot about how you work, and in this case I’m afraid that my experience has shown that they simply don’t care.

It is safe to say they got it very wrong and handled it disgracefully.

It is my duty to warn others about my unfortunate encounter with them. You probably can’t expect much from someone working out of his disorganised mess of a garage at home - I should have known better.

There are many other laser engravers (just google), and I would actually suggest sending your piece to Cape Town to avoid disappointment and having your valuable item damaged by them. A cheap expense to avoid costly damage by *********** people with a bad attitude.
