What a rip-off Edgars!

I am fuming right now! I just received a credit agreement letter (funny, I thought an agreement was mutual consent between two or more parties) from #Edgars informing me that a R22.80/month service fee will be charged to my account for a loan I could take out against my account.

I emphatically told the cashier that I was not interested in this service and that she had to advise customers that they had a right to decline the offer. She then told me that customers were not allowed to decline the offer, and I told her that as a consumer, I knew my rights and that I "Decline this offer" - even writing "declined" across the slip of paper offered to me. And lo and behold; what do I get in my inbox?

When I called their call centre, the agent told me that this was a fee charged to Edgars customers by ABSA who "holds the books for Edgars". What this means is that Edgars is in big **** and ABSA holds their debtor book - and now ABSA wants Edgars' customers to foot the bill for Edcon's poor financial management.

And to top it off, my mom, who is a pensioner, also received the same letter (to my inbox) today, even though she too declined this service!

If you are an #Edgars account-holder, please check your statement.

#Edgars - you are *********** your customers!
