Unsatisfied new Edgars customer

I am a young lady that started my official job this year. With a nice income I decided to go to Edgars to open a clothing account in order for me to build up a good credit history. Beforehand I made sure I have all the required documents to submit when I open an account. I went to Edgars Canal Walk branch on the 3rd of April 2017. It took quite a while for them to scan my documents and for my account to get approved, but I waited patiently. I received my SMS confirming that I am approved for the Edgars account. I was so excited to start my first clothing account. I then went to buy clothes for my parents (I wanted to spoil them with my first credit availabilty).

At the end of my shopping spree I went to the till to purchase my goods on my account. At the end of the transaction the cashier lady asked me why I did not use my R500 voucher that all new account members receive. I was not even aware that I was supposed to get a voucher. R500 off is a lot and in the tight economical situation evry cent off is a bonus. So I went back to customer services and asked for my voucher. They appolgised and gave the voucher to me. I then asked them to reverse my purchase and to deduct the R500 voucher. The cashier lady sighed and I could see that she was not very happy with me. She then took all my goods and "returned" it and then she re-scanned it as a "new" purchase where she then deducted the R500. At the end, after the R500 deduction, my total was R2900.

I was so excited to inform my parents that i got them new clothes from my first clothing account. Some clothes did not fit them so I returned the following day (Tuesday, 4 April 2017) to return the clothes for something else. I went to customer services and then they informed me my account has been blocked and is now under investigation for *****. They told me that someone phined me the previous day to verify my details (no one ever phoned me). According to the cashier I have spent a huge amount of money on my first purchase. I was unable to return the clothes due to my card being blocked. The credit manager then phoned the ***** department and ask why they blocked my card. ***** department then statedt that I must bring my 3 month payslips again, with my work contract as well as 3 month bank statements. I became furious seeing that I gave these documents to them the previous day when I opened my account. The manager also said that my total amount spent was R6000 something. In other words the cashier scanned my purchase twice on 4 April 2017. I then had to provide my till slip to prove that my purchase was only R2900. They then send me away to return on the next day with my documents.

Day 3 with the Edgars struggle (which was not my fault) I went back to customer services. Now with my work contract and my 3 month bank statements (which I paid R50 for at the bank to get it). The credit manager then re-scanned my payslips and my work contract and not my bank statements. She then informed me that I must wait 12 working days for them to investigate my account. Extremely furious I told her that I want them to unblock my card immediatly, seeing that this was not my fault. I also asked her why she did not use my bank statements like she asked the previous day. She could not give me any answers. She then put me through to the ***** department on the phone. The lady on the phone said exactly the same thing. They cannot help me and that they are investigating my account. She then informed me that the investigator is on lunch and he will return in an hours time. So then I walked around in canal walk for an hour to wait for the investigator. After the hour I returnded to customer services. All the staff knew me by now and they jsut "kept them selves very busy" and did not want to help me.

A new manager, Nicole, then came to me. Within 10 minutes she phoned a lot of people and eventually managed to take the block off my account. Apparently the people she spoke to mentioned that I submitted a dispute on my account, because I suspected *****. This is untrue! As a new customer I am extremly upset with Edgars' customer service. It took me 3 days to correct this problem, costing me parking money, money for bank statements (which they did not even use) and my personal time. If this Nicole lady could help me in 10 minutes, why couldn't I be helped from day 1? It was a simple phone call to the correct person to remove the block. Was the previous people to lazy? Is it really necessary for the customer to become furious just for someone to help and to rectify the problem?

I will not reccomend anyone to open an account at Edgars. They have very poor customer services and they just do not care about your time. I love their clothes, but their staff's poor working attitude and professionalism brings down their name.
