Unpleasant experience, bad customer service-Edgars Greenacres

On Saturday 25th February 2020 I was at the Edgars Greenacres store to exchange a gown I received as a gift. The tag is still attached, just the price is cut out. At the till point, the cashier was busy processing my exchange and I also told her I will pay in the difference because the 2 items Im taking were priced abit more than the gown. She then calls her colleague for authorization who then told her she cant exchange the gown because it's a branded item and it's expensive! I was in total disbelief because the gown was only R299. She left her work station to find her manager to check whether she can do the exchange and after a long wait she returns to tell me her manager says she cant..same explaination-its a branded item and it's expensive. I ask her if I could see the manager and she tells me the manager cant leave her department, I must please walk over to her department to go see her. I couldn't believe she told me that and I refused, she then called this manager and again after me having to wait they appear. I explain my story to a lady named Lynn who is a Department Manager and by this time I was already extremely annoyed and upset at this very unprofessional service from a store I loved shopping at. Lynn has an attitude and repeated what I was told by the cashier..'I cannot exchange your gown, its branded and it's expensive. She wanted to know If I was given a gift receipt, now if I was would I be going through all this with her? She even went as far as asking where my party was after I told her it was given to me as a gift! She also added that If I could get the account details of the person who purchased the gown for me then they can look up the slip and then do the exchange. Now if it was given to me as a gift how can I go ask the person for her account details? What even makes her think it was bought on account? She goes on and says the gown went on promotion in Decemeber/ January and that is also why she cannot do the exchange without a slip. I would like to know when it was on promotion if they still have so many sizes of this very same TEMPTATIONS BRANDED EXPENSIVE gown instore. I'm extremely annoyed and to top it all when I asked for the store manager or second in charge I'm told they both weekend off and I can only deal with her. I go on to ask for the Regional Mangers details and she tells me she cant give it to me. I ask her for a number I can call to speak to the Store Manager when she returns on Monday and guess what, she didn't know the stores number. Yes, this is the Department Manager who doesnt know her stores number! The cashier was no better, she didn't know the number either. While I'm expressing my frustration she mumbles 'this is ridiculous'. How unprofessional. Nowhere on the pull up sign at the till point does it state that branded items may not be exchanged/returned. Nowhere on the back of the till slip does it state that either, she told me to read the back of the slip for the return and exchange policy. Edgars stock so many branded items, does this mean none of these can be exchanged aswel? I left the store with the gown and only a piece of paper with the store managers name and contact number who the Department manager, Lynn got from another colleague who passed by at the time, who got the number off her mobile. A very unpleasant experience and I will not be returning to EDGARS GREENACRES. I hope Department Manager named Lynn does not chase any of your other shoppers away too.
