Unable to return item

I reside in Gauteng and upon a viit to Durban, i purchased a pair of jeans at the Top Man store in Gateway on March 13th. unfortunatly i was involved in an accident on March 18th and then required corrective surgery to be performed. Due to the accident and recovery time needed, i had forgotten about the jean that i had purchased. On the 26th April i needed to return to Dbn and then remembered the jean that i actually wanted to return due to not being satisfied with the fit. I then went to the Gateway TopMan store and spoke to a lady at the cashier desk and explained the situation. i was under the impression that Top Man had a 30day returns policy as most other retail stores. she then explained that Top Man only has a 7day returns policy. i then explained to her that i had been in an accident and that i had surgery and hence the jean was the last thing on my mind. she then said that she would enquire with her manager at the office and after some time she returned to inform me that they could not assist with either a return or refund. I still have the tags on the jean, as well as the receipt so i am unsure as to why they are not willing to refund or even provide me with a gift card.
