They changed my account type to draw interest

I went Christmas shopping at Edgars around 19 December. I tried to put the purchase through the account, they told me my account was closed due to inactivity, and I must open a new account. They said it would be fast, it took a half hour (not fast in my books). They did it telephonically, my mistake for allowing this. The representative asked whether I want a 6 or a 12 month account. Knowing that the 12 month account charges interest, and since the old account was 6 months, I asked for the 6 month account. I got my card and decided to put the purchase on the account. After struggling to get the account online so I can see what's going on with it, I find out it was opened as a 12 month account, with interest, which I did not want, and they did not inform me that they made it a 12 month interest account. Also, a new feature that was not there on my old account is an account protection plan at charging me R6 per month. I went to Edgars and tried to correct their error, they say they can't help me.

I closed the account because it was the only option I was left with. I'm sure my credit rating now suffers because of their scheming to charge me interest.

Hello cfbosch0,

We are deeply sorry for the overall experience. Please be advised the first account was closed due to inactivity, and it was referred as a dormant account. If the customer requests for a 6 months account and the account is approved on 12, it means the customer did not qualify for a 6 months account. The 6 months account is approved based on the credit score.
