Returning of unwanted gift

A gift was left at school on 2 December 2015 for me and as I was marking matric papers in Jhb, I only received the gift on the 18th of January 2016. As it is a very expensive but unwanted gift, I wanted to exchange it for something I could use. The receipt was wrapped around the gift so I though I would not have a problem. At first the staff were very unwilling as the gift was bought with a bank card. But then they were very happy to point out that the 30 day exchange period has expired and were a bit friendlier as that was that. Edgars only exchange a purchase within 30 days and so I am stuck with something expensive that I don't want. Woolworths however gave me a refund gift card for a purchase that I made for winter clothing in June 2015, more than 6 months ago - and I didn't even have the till slip, only the price tag attached to the garments! I guess I will rather shop at Woolworths as they are willing to go the extra mile for their customers.
