Pensioner treated badly
My grandmother (83) has always had an Edgars account. She buys twice a year for substantial amounts and then pay it back over six months.

I have been abroad and upon my return she informed me that Edgars closed her account. She received a letter that she needs to buy before the 31st of a certain month, my mum took her on the 29th. When she got to the till they informed her she could not buy the goods as her account was already closed. She showed the letter and the lady at the till called head office and informed them that my grandmother is there before the date stated on the letter. The person on the other side could not help and therefore my grandmother was stranded at the till with goods amounting to R4000.

I am appalled by this! An old lady, who paid her account every month without any delay. They have supported Edgars through out all the years and now get told at a till that they need to return the goods they have selected!

She was so embarrassed by the whole situation and in tears at the time. As she said she felt like a ******** and to be treated like that is bad.

Is this the way Edgars treat pensioners? The people who has been with you for all their years?
It is with great displeasure to hear of the overall service experience. That is certainly not the type of service that indicates our standards. Please be advised the account was closed as a dormant account. It was inactive for too long and Mrs Hannibal's last purchase was in 2012. We are deeply sorry that she was humiliated and frustrated by the whole experience.
Please note this matter was referred to the accounts department for intervention.
