Pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On December 8, 2022, I went to Edgars store at Glen Mall to put clothes on lay-by. The hold period expired on March 9, 2023. Nonetheless, I did not make any more payments on the lay-by until the term ended, which I assumed was March 9, 2023, as noted on the receipt. Personal concerns, which I will not discuss, contributed to the nonpayment.

I went to the shop on March 23, 2023, with the knowledge that the lay-by had been terminated and the expectation of receiving a refund for the items. On the other hand, the cashier told me that in place of a refund, I would be given a gift card for the same amount that I had initially put when I took out the lay-by. The cashier asserted that this was the policy of the store, and that I would not be given back the money that I paid initially when I take out the lay-by. On the receipt/slip as well as in the terms and conditions of the lay-by service of Edgars, there is no mention of this policy. This was the unspoken rule that I couldn't get my head around, so I asked the cashier to point me exactly where it says that if the lay-by term comes to an end, the only choice for a return is a gift card, not cash, but she could not produce or prove the mention of the policy. I asked to speak to their manager, who was just as useless; she told me that she could not offer a refund but could only provide a gift card, claiming a regulation that prohibits such behaviour as the reason why she could not grant a refund. She was unable to offer proof for this policy and had the hubris to tell me, "Next time, don't lay by; you should pay cash." Similar to the cashier, she was unable to produce evidence for this policy.

This is taking advantage of people. I paid money for the lay-by, and I understand the terms and conditions, but it was never made clear that the only option after the lay-by time has ended is a gift card and not a refund. Giving me a gift card that can only be used at Edgars is absolute foolishness and a violation of my customer rights. I paid the money, and I should get my money back, not a gift card based on some ****hole policies.

If this is how Edgars handles its clients, then **** Edgars; I will not go back to any Edgars shop to purchase clothing there ever again if this is how Edgars treats its customers.
